Home United Finished Third in Superstar Challenge

Defeat from the Taiwan Yulon and Singapore Cagers saw our Local Champion Home United finished Third in the Jumpshot Superstar Challenge.

Taiwan Yulon cruised past Home United in their opening match. Yulon defeated Home by 28 points. Home United then pitted against the Singapore Cagers which made up of some local lads and two foreign imports from Africa. Standing at 2m tall, these guys really caused some problem to Home. Despite having the two foreign import, the cagers only managed to win the game 95-80. Home went on to secured a 40 points win against the local Philippines team and finished third in this tournament.

The future still look bright for Home despite the two losses. Home seems to be able to dominate local basketball arena for another couple of years, unless BAS allow teams to import foreign like cagers without any special conditions. Couple of the local lads from cagers seems promising, but they still have a long way to go in order to stamp their foot on local basketball arena.

You played well Home United, the fans are always behind you. With the fact that you did not import any foreigners to take part in this tournament and giving exposure to our very own local lads , we salute you!

Team participation in this invitation tournament are, Taiwan Yulong Basketball Team, Philippines Ginebra San Miguel Basketball Team, Home United Basketball Club and Cagers Basketball Team. Expect lots of actions and pace from these teams as they are all powerhouse in their homeland.

The blog admin would like to congratulate Home United Boys Under 16 (Dragons) and Home United Under 18 girls for their achievement in this year’s Milo Cup.

The Boys finished fourth while the girls team finished runner-up in the competition. Kudos to the talented youths of Home United Basketball Club!

We would also like to apologise for the lack of coverage towards the end of the Milo Cup as there were no submission from anyone and the team is too tied up to cover for the remaining matches. Once again, well done boys and girls!

Protectors and Dragons Took a Step Closer towards Next Round

The Home United Under 16, Protectors and Dragons took a step closer towards the final round of the Milo Cup 2008 when they secured a win in their opening match in the second round.
Protector won Paya Lebar 77-43 while the Dragons overcome Zheng Hua's resistance and won 71-55.

Paya Lebar CSC took their chances in the 1st quarter and gave the Protectors a hard time when they took the lead early in the game. The score tied at 13-13 at the end of 1st quarter. The Protectors stepped up on their defence and overturned the tie. The game turned into an one-way traffic subsequently when Paya Lebar was unable to break away from Home's full court press.

The Dragons had a uphill task when they took on Zheng Hua on the same evening. Having already lost to Tong Whye in the first round, they have to win their remaining games in order to stand a chance to qualify.

During the first quarter, Zheng Hua was on the roll when they hit Home's sloopy defence. Things got tougher for Home when they trailed 10-16 at the end of first quarter. After the break, the Dragons back to their normal full court man-mark and closed down the lead. They were 1 point behind when the 2nd quarter ended 29-28 in favour of Zheng Hua.

With such depth in Dragons squad, Zheng Hua soon ran out of steam as they mainly relied on a few players. Dragons kept rotating their players and they were still fresh towards the 3rd and last quarter. In the 3rd quarter, Home outscored Zheng Hua 24-7 and took the lead for the 1st time in the game. It was no turning back then, Home held on to their lead and won the game, taking a step closer to the next round.

The next game will be played at SBC on 16 Jun 2008. The Protectors will take on Chong Ghee at 8.30pm while the Dragons take on T-net at 7pm.

Protectors Progressed as Group Winner, Under 18 Faced Exits.

The Home United Protectors progressed to the second round of the Milo Cup after winning Kai Xuan Youth. While both the under 16 teams tasted successes in the first round, the Under 18 is eliminated in round one despite winning two of their 3 matches.

The Under 18 team suffered a big defeat during last night game against the Singapore School meant that they are being eliminated due to goal difference. The game last night marked the end of the season for the squad and a lot of work has to be done to improve this team if they are going to participate again next year.

The next game for the Under 16 teams will be on 14 June 2008 at Singapore Basketball Center. The Protectors will be playing at 5.30pm and the Dragon will be playing at 7pm. Let’s hope that this two teams are able to play well and progress to the final round of the tournament.

Dragons Suffered Costly Defeat

The Dragons suffered a costly defeat to Tong Whye Temple last night 73-71. The lost made Home United Dragons to progress to the 3rd round more difficult with BAS new tournament implementation in this year's Milo Cup

BAS implementing a new system for the 2nd round, which we find it impractical and unprofessional, the top two team of each group will progress to the next round with another top two teams from another group. Which also meant that Tong Whye and Home United will again be in the same group and last night result will be brought over to the next round. This also mean that when the 2nd round starts, two teams will start off with a win and two teams will start off with one loss. Should Home United Dragons and Tong Whye successfully proceed to the final round of 6. Their results in the 1st round will be again brought forward to that round. This is what we call, unprofessional and amateur why of organising a tournament.

Aside from BAS ever changing management and organising of such event, the match involved two of the most talented teams, Home United and Tong Whye looks like a grand final match. Both teams gone through a see saw battle before Tong Whye finally emerged winner in the dying seconds of the last quarter.

Credits must go to Home United although they lost this important game. Without their big man for this game, the rest of the squad managed to neutralise Tong Whye's big man play, unsettling their flow of play and made Tong Whye's centers work real hard to get the ball.

Tong Whye scored through their main center, No.12 and Home answered back with their long rage shooting and fast break. No.7 Larry and No.11 scored 13 and 17 points respectively. Six 3-pointers between the two players and a total of nine 3-pointers from the team to keep Home closely contested in the game.

When a team is able to scored so many points and 3 pointers in a game and yet lost, we have to point out that Home United's defence last night was not really up to par. although they did managed to cut off the Tong Whye's center supply, they lost focus at times to let their opponent scored through easy fast break and basket. This should be something for the team to work on.

Despite the lost, Home are still hopeful to qualify for the next final round. They would need to beat their next two opponents in order to stand a chance to qualify. If they keep up with the way they scores and brush up their defence, this team could be one of the most difficult team to beat.

Dragons Progress To Next Round, Protectors Put a Foot In

If you have gone to watch the second match of both Dragons and Protectors, you definitely would have breathing difficulty for both games. The Dragons took on DOS on Wednesday in search to book an early entry to the second round. DOS, who lost to Tong Whye Temple needs to win this game to ensure they stand a chance to qualify.

The Dragons were in control for the 1st half, taking a 36-20 lead during half time. Home took a hugh lead with No.11 Benny Ong scoring freely at any area on the court. He contributed 12 points for the whole game. But DOS did not give up, they gave Home a run during the third quarter. With 5 minutes left on the clock, DOS cut down Home’s lead to 6 points. The Home defence start to look shaky for a moment before a time-out was called.

Back from the time-out, the Home players looked composed and start to score and pull off from their opponent. No.9 Loh Teng Rui contributed 6 points (14 points in total) in the last quarter to stabilise Home lead and make sure that Home proceeded to win this game. It was all over for DOS in this competition when the Dragons held on and won the game 73-56.

Protectors Fenced off Raffles Institution

The Protectors won the game like the way Under 18 won in their first game. Trailing from behind during the 2nd quarter with the score 34-28 at half time, the protectors never look like they are going to win this game. The absence of their key center No.14 Hao Hong is causing more headaches for the team.

Raffles seem to be hungrier to win this game. Protectors set a full court trap defence in the third in hope to overturn the score. No.7 Toh Yi Sin scored a 3 pointer to tie the game at 47-47. The play paid off as they took a 2-point lead at the end of third with the score read 51-49.

The last quarter was a roller coaster ride. Raffles came closed to win the game with their never say die effort. No.8 Koh An Song and No.10 Kenneth Koh scored another 3-pointer respectively to keep Home in the game. The Protectors finally won Raffles 61-59 when the final buzzer sounded. What a relief to the fans, what a game for the team.

Protectors and Home United Under 18 Past First Hurdle

Both Under 16 and Under 18 Home Youth team past their first hurdle on Tuesday when they beat their opponent respectively. The Protectors cruised past Henderson Secondary 84-31 while the Under 18 squad narrowly escaped and scrapped a 60-57 win against Killiney Kopitiam.

The Protectors opened their scoring with Marcus Seah hitting his and the team first 3 points. With Substitutes No.12 Chin Chong Kiat coming on to add another 3 points, Home looked comfortable with 11 points lead 16-5 at the end of first quarter.

With Henderson putting more pressure on Home’s forward, it was show time for Home star center No.14 Lim Hong Hao. Towering at 1.9m tall, the power center show agility with some strong offensive rebound and scoring off the board. He scored 16 points, with No.12 Chin Chong Kiat and No.10 Kenneth Koh adding 12 points each.

With Home United firing freely throughout the game, they further inflicted Henderson’s wound by playing aggressive defence. The match eventually ended 84-31 in favour to Home United.

Under 18 Came Back from Behind to Steal A Win

With both under 16 teams winning their game easily, the Under 18 needs to work very hard to win their opening game. Home United was not helped by their smaller size as compared as their opponent.

Home started strongly with a 8-0 run. But soon found themselves in trouble dealing with
Killiney Kopitiam’s big centers. Although Killiney Kopitiam started off slowly, they eventually managed to close the lead and end the quarter with 14-11.

Killiney Kopitiam pulls off an impressive offence and lead the 2nd quarter 33-30. Throughout the 3rd quarter, Killiney Kopitiam held on to their lead. At one point, Home was trailing by 7 points. But it took a lot of character and mental strength for Home to overturn the score. No.10 Tan Choon Kiat gave everything he had assisting the team by scoring 15 points in the last 2 quarters, 23 points for the whole night. No.9 Lim Wee Hoe scored an important 3 point in the last quarter to bring Home back from the dead.

With a minute left towards the end, the game tied at 57-57. Home defended well and scored a fast break through Tan Choon Kiat. Home took a 2 point lead and with ladyluck shinning on them, Killiney Kopitiam missed an attempt to tie the game. Tan Choon Kiat made his free throw and Home came back from behind to win 60-57.

Home United (Dragons) Sealed Easy Win

Home United under 16 Youth Team (Dragons) were drawn into a group of death in this year Milo Cup. Together in the group are Tong Whye Temple, DOS and Quan Fong. Quan Fong should be the weakness team among all and the three strong teams are left to fight for two slots to proceed to the second round.

The Dragons recorded an easy win tonight at SBC against the lowly Quan Fong. Home is more superior in any department on the court. It was really a one sided game after all with the final score read 105-34.

Home, same as before deployed full court man mark right from the start, similar to the senior team when they won Tong Whye in the NBL final. But they seems to need some time to gel together as there are times where Quan Fong scored easy baskets due to their lacks of concentrations. Despite the down side, this squad fared better in their field goal percentage compared to previous year’s squad.

This match final score line should prove nothing if they lose in their remaining fixtures. Home has some players retained from last year’s squad. With No. 4 Kahliang, No.6 Jun Hao and No.7 Larry remained, back came No.10 Dawei from the combined school. The squad is reinforced by players from the Anglican High. However, the squad lacks of big center, and it will be interesting to see how they cope with team like Tong Whye and DOS.

Next up, Protectors takes on Henderson and Home under 18 faced tough test against Killiney Kopitiam.

By looking at the team sheet, Protectors strength should be about the same as the Dragons. They will meet Henderson in their first game tomorrow at SBC tomorrow at 7pm. The rest of teams are Kaixuan and Gryphons. Home United under 18 shared the same fate as the Dragons, a tough group awaiting ahead as they takes on Killiney Kopitiam tomorrow at a outdoor court Beside Kembangan MRT at 8.30pm. The other two groups are combined school white and team illusion. A big match tomorrow for the under 18 squad. For whoever the winner, that team stands a very high chance to enter the 2nd round.

Home Youth Team in Action

Home United Basketball Club Youth Team (Boys and Girls) will be in action starting from tomorrow onwards. They will be pitting against other top youth team in Singapore to compete in the Milo Cup 2008.

Milo Cup being the most prestigious Basketball Tournament for the youths in Singapore, is considered the most important game for a youth players.

Home United had send two under 16 boys and one under 18 boy follow by one under 18 girls and one under 16 girls to participate in this tournament. This is the most number of teams Home had sent for this tournament. It seems that Home Youth system is doing fine and has gain popularity among the youths over the years.

With both senior teams secured their championship last night, it will be interesting to see how their youth fair in this tournament.

Home United Dominates NBL Once Again

Home United Basketball Club dominates the local basketball arena once again. With the Men and Women teams winning the Grand Finals of the NBL last night, this is the second time in a row for the Women and fifth for the Men to defend their Championship titles.

The Women Grand Final between Home United and Qian Xi was nail-biting as both teams fought to till the very last seconds of the game. At one time, Home extended their lead to 8 points and looks comfortable to retain their Championship. But Qian Xi never gave up and cut down Home’s lead to 2 points. Lady Luck seems to be on Home Side when Qian Xi players miss a lay up. Home eventually won by 51-48.

The Men Grand Final followed up. It was a repeated final as Home United took on Tong Whye again in this year’s final. Tong Whye, without their key center Pathnman, was a hugh blow to the team.

Once again, Home seems to take some time to settle down when the opponent played zone defence. Tong Whye deployed a 2-3 zone defence seems to work for their in the first quarter. Home, pressing full court at the start of the game had no answer to Tong Whye zonal defence. Tong Whye eventually took a 7 points lead, leaving some nervous moments for the Home’s fan.

In the 2nd quarter, Home continued to deploy their full court press and seem more settled with Tong Whye Zonal defence. Although there isn’t much flow in their attack when Tong Whye was all set in zone, Home’s fast pace game plan and fast breaks made them come back into the game. Home regained their lead at the end of 2nd quarter.

It was a one way traffic in the 3rd and last quarter. Home’s Wang Wei Zhi scored 9 points consecutively to make it more difficult for Tong Whye to come back. Home stretched the lead to 30 points in the 3rd quarter.

The last quarter was a quarter for the clock to run down. The Championship was almost in Home’s bag. The players and the fans waited eagerly for the 10 minutes clock to run down. Home slowed down the game pace by setting a 3-2 zonal defence. This is the first time that anyone have seen them playing zone defence. Although Tong Whye managed a couple of 3 pointers in the last quarter, they never look to have a chance to get back into the game.

The final buzzer sounded with Home United wining the game 82-47. It was a night for all Home officials, players and fans. Once again Home United Basketball Club is the Champions for both Men and Women category.

Well done Home United, you are the truly Champions!

Home United Meet Tong Whye Again in the Final

Home United cruised past Chong Ghee 71-49 in the first semi-final and Tong Whye beat Eng Tat narrowly in the overtime puts the two finalist of last year’s NBL to compete in this year Grand Final again.

Home United was in trouble when they started off their game against Chong Ghee off their mark. Chong Ghee was in lead during the first quarter and Home United did not seem to be able to score during the quarter.

Chong Ghee who held the defending Champion brilliantly throughout the first half found themselves playing the chasing game again in the third. Home pulled off their opponent with their full court press and fast breaks regained their lead and starts to cruise away in the game.

But the boo-boo incident happened at the starts of third quarter has prove again how lousy Singapore basketball referees can be. Chong Ghee had 6 players on the court and 2 points while the Home Players protested even before their opponent scored. The most amazing decision came – The referees actually call for the play to go on and Chong Ghee basket counts. This is so shameful and such a disgrace to the sport. Again, Singapore referees seem to be unable to admit their mistakes and make big decision in the game. What if the score is closely contested? Even if its not, they shouldn’t have carry on with their mistake!

The game went on and saw Home United stamped a place in the Grand Final. Let’s hope that the referees’ standard will be better in the final.

Chong Ghee Secured Fourth Place to Meet Home United

After a hard fought win against last year’s runner up, Tong Whye, Chong Ghee earned themselves a semi-final slot in this year’s NBL. They will face Home United tomorrow night in SBC at 7.15pm

Home United should not be taking this match lightly if they have seen how Chong Ghee managed a win against Tong Whye. Furthermore, Chong Ghee is the only team in the league had pitted wins against the defending champion. Tomorrow’s game should be very much different from their opening encounter.

Another nail-biting semi-final will be Eng Tat Hornets taking on Tong Whye. The latter is not in good form in this year’s NBL. Eng Tat currently in good form should see this match through. But you never know how Tong Whye will react to this game. After all, being the underdog in this game, they got nothing to lose and expect them to give Eng Tat a real fight.

Let’s hope that all four teams will produce some exciting and stunning basketball game tomorrow. Also, we expected all Home United fans to be there again for the team. We have come a long way to support this team, let’s give our fullest support for them in their last 2 matches.

Home Unbeaten After First Round

Home United kept a 100% win record after completed round 1 of the National Basketball League. While Home United get to rest for 2 more weeks before taking on 4th placing team of the NBL, the rest of the NBL teams are still competing for the semi-final berth.

Home, who won their last match against NUS once again prove that there are an undisputed Champion of local basketball. Although NUS created a lot of problem for Home United, they were outplayed in the 3rd and last quarter.

NUS, played their maiden season in NBL took on the Champion bravely in the 1st half. In the two quarters, NUS was in control of the game most of the time. But the experience of Home players managed to overturn the tide every time and managed to retain a 1 point lead after the 1st and 2nd quarter.

The 3rd quarter onwards was almost one way traffic in favour of Home. Deploying full court man on man, NUS find it hard to breathe against Home tight defence. Home started to pull away from their opponent after a series waves of fast breaks.

Home United took a comfortable 20 points lead and threw in the rookie players for a run. NUS, with their never give up attitude, tried to press full court in search for some miracles.

It was too late to undone the damages, Home held on their lead superbly and end the game with the score 72 – 49.

Home United Thrashed Tagawa

Home United showed no mercy when they thrashed Tagawa 71-34 during last Wednesday game. Tagawa was no match for the mighty Home in every aspect of the game.

Tagawa was very much different from the team who beat Tong Whye and lost narrowly to Eng Tat when they faced Home United. They did not put on a fight as their handed their worst defeat of the season. Home United on the other hand recovered from their awful defence against Eng Tat and put on a better performance that night

Home took a big lead in the 1st quarter and extended their lead during half time. There Home travelling on an expressway leaving their opponent way back behind.

Coming Sunday, Home will meet "Dark Horse", NUS for their last game in this round. A Semi-final spot is confirm for Home. NUS who have impressed the crowd with some breathe taking performances will hope for a semi final place in their maiden appearance in NBL.

Let's hope that it will be an interesting game ahead.

Home Sink Sin Kee and Almost Stun by Hornets

After Home defeated Sin Kee 69-48 in one of the most boring match of NBL this season, there’s seems to be nothing much to report on that match. The focus then fell on the Eng Tat match.

The setting, the crowd and the action of the Home United and Eng Tat game were awesome. Eng Tat left some of their main players on the bench during the start, a tactic which want to run out the energy of Home United main players and then struck Home United when they are tired. Seriously, this almost paid off.

Right from the start, Eng Tat push Home to the limit, denying space and pressuring home with their aggressive offence. Although Home managed to withstand their attacks, Home who had a bad night only managed to take a 1 point lead by the end of 1st quarter.

Home United was not displaying their best defence that night. The defence that keep them above the rest somehow missed out during that night. Eng Tat kept their lead between 5 and 7 points all along towards the end of 4th quarter. They must have felt that they could be the first team to beat Home United this season. Hampered by their foul trouble, Eng tat still managed to hold on their lead with minutes and seconds ticked down the clock.

But Home players’ experience and their strong belief that they are still in the game and could actually won the game stood by them. Not in a second that the Home players gave up. They fought hard and was trailing by 1 point (78-79) with 5 sec remain on the clock with Home United in possession. No.8 Derek Aw drives towards the basket and was foul by Eng Tat player.

FREE THROW! The ref called for the foul with 3 seconds remaining. TIME OUT! Shouted Eng Tat coached. After the time out, Derek Aw went to the free throw line and shoot. The 1st attempt, looked set to miss – but somehow the ball went in (79-79). Home United tied the game. Then he made the 2nd attempt.(80-79) Home leads by 1 point. TIME OUT! – Eng Tat called for a time out again, trying to plot something in the last 3 seconds to win the game.

The ball will be played in Home United half, 3 seconds remaining; Eng Tat tried to in bound the ball and scored. Out came the in bound, once again, Derek Aw got a touch of the ball and stole it from the Eng Tat players and the buzzer sounded.

VICTORY to Home United. Home United won the game 80-79. What a dramatic came back and what a way to win this game! In a match where you may have thought that Home United is going to lose, they came out winner. If this is the 1st time I entered this stadium, I would have thought that this game is the Grand-Final.

Home did not played well, but lady luck is on their side. What a night, what a win. A real relief for the Home United supporters.

Last year’s runner-up Tong Whye suffered another setback when they lost 53-79 to Home United Basketball Club last night. Home United was in all command in every aspect of the game, totally in control.

For the second time this season, Home United killed off the game in half time when they took a 25-point lead at the end of second quarter. (Chong Ghee was the first victim) Thong Whye suffered a double blow when their main point guard and No.10 were out injured.

While Koh Meng Koon was leading the attacks and defence for Home United, his Slingers team mate, Pathman had a woeful game. He missed several open chances inside the paint and was not effective in defence as well.

Home United was on a roll last night, any player who came on, played well and with Mitchell and Jacob impressive display show that Home got their youth system right.

Once again Home impressive defence caused a lot of trouble for their opponent. Tong Whye surely have no answer to this defence. At the end Home took their 3rd win in row in this tournament.

Home United Secured Second Win in NBL 2008

It was a night that almost turned out to be a giant killing night. Tong Whye, last year runner-up lost narrowly to Tagawa by 1 point while Min Yi put on a real fight in a exciting match which left a number of question marks at the end of the game.

All credits to Min Yi who fought hard and gave the champion a real fight. They came out playing more aggressive than Home United and much more eager to overturn the champion. But credits must be given to Home United as they were playing against 8 men on the court. The referees definitely made the match more interesting and exciting with their questionable calls against Home United.

Right from the starts, the referees were calling petty fouls against Home and were not consistence against Min Yi with the similar type of fouls they committed. The roller coaster match end up a tie, 27-27 at the end of 2nd quarter.

Things got worse during the 3rd and beginner of 4th quarter. More unbelievable calls were called against Home United. So much so that the crowd starts to jeer at the referees and players and Home officials from the bench reacted angrily at their calls. Well, what we got to say? This is the standard of Singapore Referees. Why are the referees reacting in this way? To make the match or tournament more exciting? It was until last minute in the last quarter that two of the “young” referees started to “notice” those fouls that Min Yi had been committed right from the beginning. What about the “senior” referee? Out of 22 decisions he made last night, only one is against Min Yi.

Home stood tall and eventually won the match 76-59. It could have been worst for Min Yi if the refs were consistence with their call. But credits should not be taken away for their fighting spirits.

To the referees who officiate last night game. For whatsoever reasons for you to react, to officiate the way you did, you did not make the match exciting but you disgusted the game, you a shame and no integrity. It’s obvious, the crowd saw it and I bet you know it yourself. Shame on you, you stained the referee’s image and name.

Home United vs Min Yi Preview, WNBL Starts Tonight

Newly promoted Min Yi will have a tough test today, taking on last year Champion, Home United Basketball Club. Min Yi lost their first game against NUS will need to work extra hard to trouble Home, who strolled past Chong Ghee in their game.

This should be the first time both teams play against each other in the NBL in recent years. The game will be played tonight, 8.30pm at Singapore Basketball Center.

Min Yi is basically a young team. Most of their players are promoted from their youth system. Based on their first performance, they should cause a little problem for the mighty Home.

Veteran Chua Boon Heng should be back for this game. With his experience and coolness on the court, Home should find balance in the play-making area. With Jason Tan injured during last match, it should be too early to call upon him in this game. Home captain, Koh Meng Koon will be again the key player to look out for. While his compatriot, Alan, will look forward for another great game in the center role.

With so much talent in the team, Min Yi will find this game much tougher than the NUS game.

Women NBL 2008

The Women NBL starts tonight with only four teams participating in this year’s tournament. The tournament will use a double round robin system.

It a pity that with so many female basketballers around in Singapore, the most prestige tournament in country has only four teams participating in it. Definitely we would like to see more teams taking part in the tournament and more exciting matches for all basketball fans.

Qian Xi will take on T-net club tonight at 7pm while Home United will have a tough game against Kg Ubi Kembangan CSC at 8.30pm.

Defending Champion Strolled in First Win

It was a stroll in the park for defending Champion, Home United as they thrashed Chong Ghee Sports Club 77-51 last night in the Singapore Basketball Center. Home United with new faces like Forward, Jason Goh, Impressive Center, Alan, Point Guard, Wei Kang and Jacob proved too much for Chong Ghee to handle.

The match end prematurely when Home United took a 30 points lead some time in the 2nd quarter. Displaying an impressive strong full court man press and outstanding man marking in the 1st half, Chong Ghee could only score less than 15 points in the 1st half. Rookie Center, Alan made his debut game for Home United and impressed the crowd and his team-mates with his outstanding contribution in defence. He got his 4th out of 6 block shot of the game in the 2nd quarter stopped nearly every Chong Ghee attacks in the paint.

Home suffered a blow when key point guard, Jason Tan was injured his ankle as early as in the 1st quarter. Although he was later involved in the last quarter, he barely managed a couple of minutes before Wei Kang substituted him off the court. As veteran Chua Boon Heng missed the last night game, the play-making responsibilities fell in the hands of Jacob and Wei Kang who showed that they can be called upon.

Maybe the game looked too one sided that the crowd started to head home during half time. Home United performance in the 2nd half was not as impressive as compared to the 1st, causing some turnovers and lapse of concentration in defence. Maybe a sign of complacency or they simply took the game too lightly during the 3rd.

Captain Koh Meng Koon once again leads the scoring for Home while Alan hits on a double-digit scoring to cap an impressive debut. If Home puts on that kind of defence showed in the first half, it is no doubt that they will be champion again this season.

On the earlier match, NUS also capped their 1st win against the newly promoted Min Yi. It will be interesting to see how these two newbie perform against the rest of the team.

Home United starts off this season against Chong Ghee Sports Club today at 8.30pm, Singapore Basketball Center. Home United in search to defend their title for the fifth consecutive year, will definitely wants to starts the season with a victory.

Not much changes made in the Home’s line up. Captain Koh Meng Koon, veteran Chua Boon Heng, Koong Kum Hong, Jason Tan, Derek Aw and Sham are all named in this year’s Squad. Promising youth player such as Mitchell, his brother Jacob and others names like Khng En Ning synergies the squad with experience and energy.

Other team members like Wang Wei Zhi and Chong Zheng Yean provide alternate option in the center position. New faces, Jason Goh (Ex SAFSA player) finally join up with the squad. Jacob, elder brother of Mitchell, join forces with his brother after his national service with SAFSA. A surprise rookie named was Teo Kun You, a 16 year-old national youth player was selected from its youth squad.

The move showed that Home United is heading towards the right direction, nurturing youths under their wing for big tournament like NBL. It will be exciting to see how the youth players can grow and play under the guidance of their seniors.

The new NBL season 2008 starts on 9 April 2008. The first match will see the two newly promoted teams, NUS takes on Min Yi. While defending Champion, Home United takes on Chong Ghee in quest for their fifth feat of the Championship.

HUBC bloggers have not received the team sheet for HUBC. But we were informed on the fixture for this NBL. We would like to see all HUBC supporters turn up for all HUBC games and if possible submit match reports and picture for us to update this blog.

Once again, we are not doing this for full time and would very much appreciate help from all supporters to make this blog interesting and lively.

Teck Ghee CSC organized Under 19 Tournament

Teck Ghee CSC Under 19 Basketball Tournament will kick off tomorrow evening at Teck Ghee CC. While we do not have much information of this tournament, our die-hard readers or fans had sent in Home United Squad’s fixtures.

While the senior team had just completed the Converse Challenge Cup, the limelight is now on the younger squad. Our team will be down to at least cover the line-up for the HUBC team. Nevertheless, players like Folkoff brothers, Mitchell and Jacob, “veteran young” like Teo Chun Hoe and Kng En Ning should be in the line-up as all of them had featured in the senior team in various tournaments. It will be interesting to see the future stars of HUBC perform in this tournament.

Home United Hits Double

Both Men and Women team of Home United Basketball Club clinched this year’s Converse Singapore Challenge Cup. Both team were the favourites to win this title and came out as expected as Champion. The two teams remain unbeaten in this tournament while on their way to the championship.

The last game of the tournament saw HUBC men taking on Malacca Chin Woo in a tightly contested “Final”. Chin Woo took the lead in the first quarter with Home trailing behind by 3 points. The next 3 quarters were all Home United when they overtook Chin Woo and maintained their lead all the way to the final buzzer.

Chin Woo was playing badly at one point during the 3rd quarter, allowing HUBC to take a 15-point lead. Although Chin Woo tried to recover from the break, it was all too late for them to catch up.

The women team seems to be cruising past their opponents. As expected, Qian Xi and Kg Ubi Kembangan are the only team that caused trouble to HUBC. With such talents in the squad, the women team should be able to capture next year’s NBL Championship.

Ice Skating at Singapore Basketball Center

What would you expect when BBAXN meet Malacca Chin Woo and Home United meeting Eng Tat Hornets? Fast pace game with lots of fast breaks are what you would want to see or expects from these four teams. But in last night match, none of the two highlights were showing sign of what we expected the game to be…. It turned out to be two boring match of the whole tournament so far – disappointment.

It’s not any team fault for their display in last night’s games. It’s not the players who took the game lightly. It’s all because of the “Ice Skating ring” court of SBC. The courts in SBC are so slippery these days. It became worst when its raining. The whole place becomes a skating place for everyone.

Players were falling here and there and even the referees are victim to those floor. And to my surprise, there isn’t any floor boys mopping the floor and the players have to do it themselves. Nevertheless, the matches went on without having any players injured because of the condition of the floor, but the pace of the games was totally affected by it. We seem to be watching a batch of 40 year old players running up and down the court.

Home United and Chin Woo as expected beat their opponent last night and remaining the only team unbeaten so far in the tournament. This would mean that Sunday games would be like a Grand Final – Winner takes all in this final showdown.

Hopefully by then, BAS would quickly work something out with their courts and we can all witness a great match which involves the two titans.

Home United Extends Winning Streak

After cruising pass Tagawa 47-62 in the opening match of the tournament, Home United extended their winning streak after a hard fought match against BBAXN All Stars. The young and energetic BBAXN team caused Home United a lot of trouble with their pace and shooting. But the more experience Home United showed that they are able to fight back till the very last moment.

A rash of moment from the BBAXN and national point guard Wei Long gifted Home win in this match. If he had remain cool headed in his foul called by the referee in the last minute of the game, BBAXN may have kept their 100% win record against the mighty Home United. Koh Meng Koon hit all four free throws, followed by Jason Tan hitting the fast break with one seconds remaining in the clock, broke the lost spell against BBAXN All Stars with a 74-71 win.

Tong Whye became the latest victim as they lost to Home United with the score 73-57. The game show similarity in this year’s NBL final. Both teams were closely contested in the first half and Home pulled away during the 3rd and last quarter. Last night, a much lackluster performance by Home United in the first half, found themselves lucky enough to overcome Tong Whye in the final 3rd and 4th quarter of the game.

Two more games to go for Home to retain their Championship for another year. Tonight, Home will face Eng Tat Hornets while Malacca Chin Woo and BBAXN in the match ahead of Home’s will decide which the teams are to stands a chance to win the Championship.

Converse Singapore Basketball Challenge 2007

The familiar 7-11 Singapore Challenge Cup was renamed this season as the Converse Singapore Basketball Challenge. The tournament will be held from 17 Dec 2007 to 23 Dec 2007. Differ from past years are the tournament format and its category. The women category was added in this year’s Challenge Cup.

In the past, play-off format were used in the tournament. But this year, with only 6 teams from each category, the organizing body decided to have it in single round robin format. Teams from the men category are this year NBL Champion, Home United, Runner-up Tong Whye, 3rd placing Eng Tat Hornets and fifth place Tagawa as well as Malaysia power house, Malacca Chin Woo. The women category consist the likes, Home United, Qian Xi, Kg Ubi Kembangan (A and B) and T-net Club.

Home United will take on Tagawa in today’s opening match at 7.30pm at Singapore Basketball Center while the women team takes on Qian Xi tomorrow at 7pm.

Home United Under 14 achieved fourth place in Milo Cup

The Under 14 Milo Cup organised by BAS came to a closure yesterday at the Singapore Basketball Center. As Huang Engineering, Tungsan and Tong Whye have already secured the Top 3 places respectively, the match between Home United and T-net Club was the limelight of all the games yesterday.

Both team started of defensively with T-net leading by 7-0 at the end of 1st quarter. Home although defended well to hold of T-net from scoring, but they found themselves in trouble with their own scoring ability. They did not managed to score a basket in the whole quarter.

The game starts to open up in the second quarter with Home coming back aggressively to overtake in the 2nd quarter. But they paid a heavy price as their main players; No. 7 An Song and No.11 Jia Shun were fouled out during the 3rd quarter.

T-net definitely did not make good use of Home’s foul trouble and were unable to stop Home from scoring through their center No.15 Minghua.

It was a sweet victory for the Home boys as they gave it all for this game. It was their hunger and determination that won the game. When asked about Home’s performance for this game, “It was a good game, the boys stick to my instructions and played well. They have improved through the games and this match is one of the better performances they have put in. I’m proud of them” – Jason Tan, coach for Home United

This should consider a good start for the boys who have such a long way to go in their basketball life and passion. Keep up the good work and we shall see them in more action in future.

Home United Snatched a Win from Unity Secondary School

A "roller coaster" match was displayed in SBC today which saw Home United walked away with a 48-41 victory over a talented Unity Secondary School. It was a match that both coaches know the importance of the game. With Huang Engineering the favourite to progress beyond this stage, Home and Unity are fighting for the last slot to the final round.

Home started to press Unity right from the start of the game. But the talented Unity players raised their game and keep up with Home for the 1st half of the game. There was a time in the second quarter where Unity was leading 22-12 forcing Home to call for a time-out. Home fought hard to get back into the game, trailing by 2 points at half-time.

At the starts of third quarter, Home used an unfamiliar 3-2 zone defence, It pays off well as it keep Unity outside the 3 point line. Unity unable to penetrate into the paint and unable to recover from Home United fast breaks cost them the game. At the end of the quarter, Unity Sec was leading by 1 point.

Home’s patience zone defence again pays off in the last quarter. Hitting on Unity weakness in shooting, Home United ran off with some fine fast break. Unity soon found themselves in trouble with the clock ticking down seconds by seconds. They tried to set a full court press towards the end of the quarter, but it was too late for them to overtake their opponent.

Unity will now have to beat Huang Engineer in order to progress and Home will able to put a foot into the final round should they beat Tangling Sec in tomorrow match up.

Home United Under 14 Progress to Next Round

Home United under 14 squad progress to the next round of the Milo Under 14 tournament organised by BAS. The team beat Jurong West Eagles 84 -23 yesterday and had earlier won Admiralty CSC with the score 57-29.

Home started the match with 7 players, with 3 players coming late for the game. It caused the team to suffer some depth problem and was unable to cope with the game early in the first half.

Things began to flow more smoothly for Home in the third quarter. They managed to play some good defence and managed to stretch their lead to 39-22 at the end of third quarter.

The last quarter was all Home United show cruising pass their opponent to secure another victory in this tournament.

The draw for next round will be held in BAS tomorrow noon. The teams that progress to the next round will be evenly matched. The real test for Home United has just begun.

HUBC finished Third in Johore International Invitation Cup

Home United Basketball Club has got something for Singapore basketball fans to cheer about when they came in Third, behind runner-up Philippines and host country Malaysia in last week Johore International Invitation Cup.

The tournament consists of team from China Parklane Club, Indonesia Selection Team, Philippines C selection Team, Hong Kong National Team, Malaysia National Team and local Home United Basketball Club.

Home lead by Captain Koh Meng Koon and on loan Pathman s/o Matialakan (both currently playing for the Slingers) got off a flying start when they beat China Parklane by 23 points in their first game. They then went off to hold back Hong Kong National Team in a nail-biting and closely contested game. Home came from behind in the final quarter with Derek Aw making a buzzer beater to brush off Hong Kong with a 2 points win.

It was then downfall for Home when they suffered 3 straight losses in their remaining three games. But their two wins were enough to secure third placing.

Kudos to Home United, for making Singapore proud in the basketball arena once again.

Home United Under 14 Win First Game

Home United under 14 boys bagged their first win in this year’s Milo Youth Tournament (U14 Cat). Home United cruised past Zheng Hua (Quan Feng) B team with the scoreline 19 – 100.

From Home United line-up, there are some players from Anglican missing in the team, As reported in the pre-season, none of the Anglican players were seen in their line-up. However, from the way Home played yesterday, they managed to cover the lost of these players at the moment.

Right from the start, Home United pressed their opponents hard with their full court man to man marking, causing Zheng Hua numerous turn-over. The game was almost gone during half time with the score read 48-8 in Home favour.

Zheng Hua has a little bit more space to breathe in the second half with Home deploying half court man-mark. But poor finishing and lack of team-work were the main reason for their defeat.

Home United’s big center, No.15 Toh Ming Hua made an impressive start for the tournament. His towering height advantage clearly dominated the paint for the team. He made a double-double in his field goal and rebounds.

The up-coming games will be much tougher test for Home United. Admiralty, Jurong West and Dragon Dos are no push-over. We shall see if Home United is up to the task.

Home United Maiden Win in Off Season Basketball League

Finally, after such a long break, we are back for more basketball action. Home United under 16 boys took part in the 20 Under Community Basketball League organized by APSM.

Home started off brilliantly with a 65-10 win over the Tigers. It was their first time taking part in this tournament and first taste taking on the Expats kids, who proved to be more physical and tough compared to the local boys. Despite the age group and a more physical side, Home hung on and won the game.

It is the first time that you see a full Home United Squad playing together. As a couple of the players were always being called up to represent Singapore Schools, there was no chance that they are able to play together in the Milo Cup. The boys proved that they can go far if they stays and trains hard together.

Let’s hope that Home United can produce good result in this tournament. And of course, we hope that there will be more stories or updates in this tournament so that we may be able to cover Home’s games.

International Friendly – Home United Vs Aspac

Aspac, Champion of the Indonesia Basketball League (IBL) arrived in Singapore to play a couple of friendly matches with our National Team as well as local top clubs.

The team comprised of many ex Indonesia National Team players has plenty of experience and talent in their squad. They were unbeaten in the IBL Season 2006-2007 with an impressive 18-0 run.

Home United Basketball Club men will have a chance to pit against the Champion of Indonesia coming Friday (3/8/2007), 7pm at Singapore Basketball Center.

Its the Showdown between the two champions from two countries. What are we waiting for? Let’s get there to see some real action.

Improves Your Ball Handling Skill

As now is the off season period, there are nothing much or no matches to report on. So we came up with the idea to improve your basketball skill. From shooting, ball handling and more..... We hope that you find these information and drills useful.

You need to practise to be great....

BALL HANDLING TIP
To be a top-flight ballhandler (which is key to being a great point guard) one must be able to survey the floor while handling the ball. The ball-handler cannot afford to be concerned with whether he/she is going to be able to control the ball at high speeds especially while running a break. Everyone on the team relies on the ball-handler to get the ball down the floor and be the catalyst toward making something happen for the team.

A classic rule of life applies here: If you can handle two of something, then mastering one thing will be much easier. In other words, if you can handle two balls at high speeds while keeping your eyes looking ahead, handling one will be a piece of cake.

Drill: Stand at one end of the court. Hold one basketball in each hand. Begin to walk forward toward the opposite baseline, bouncing the ball in your right hand first. In the fraction of a second after the ball in your right hand has hit the floor, bounce the left ball. In the fraction of a second after the left ball hits the floor, bounce the right ball. Continue in this fashion down the court. As you begin to feel more comfortable doing the drill, start to pick up your pace. Ideally, you will eventually be able to sprint down the floor, bouncing both balls with equal skill.

Don't underestimate the importance of this ball handling tip! I have seen NBA and WNBA players STILL performing this drill at the on-set of a practice. It sounds simple, and it is, so make sure to master ball-handling and you're on your way to a great basketball career!

AROUND THE WORLD
Ball Handling Tip #1: Circle the ball around your head, than your waist, and finally put your legs together and take the ball around both legs at the knees. Then, bend at the waist, spread your legs, and circle the ball around one leg, then the other. This exercise will give you a great feel for the ball in addition to hand coordination and speed.

THE SCISSORS
Ball Handling Tip #2: To start this exercise, place your left foot ahead of your right and bounce the ball between your legs from your right to your left hand. As the ball gets to your left hand shift your feet so that your right leg goes ahead of your left and bounce the ball back between your legs. Shift your feet with every bounce.

CATCH-CATCH-CATCH
Ball Handling Tip #3: This is a drill to work on your ball handling. Hold the ball between your legs, with both hands on the ball, right hand in front and left hand in back. Quickly switch your hands,(now left hand in front and right hand in the back), without letting the ball touch the ground. Do as quickly as possible...this drill is one of the hardest to master... but it just takes lots of practice.

CRAB WALK
Ball Handling Tip #4: This drill can go from baseline to half court. Step forward with your left leg and pass the ball from your right hand to your left under your left leg. As you take your next step with your right leg, pass the ball from your left hand to your right under your right leg. Continue this pattern all the way down the floor.

Ball Handling Tip #5: Spread your legs, bend at the waist, put the ball through your legs, around one leg, back through your legs, and around your other leg, making a figure eight. This will help you get a feel for the basketball as you move it around. Keep your head up not looking at the ball and increase your speed.

FIGURE 8 DRIBBLING
Ball Handling Tip #6: This is a drill to practice your ball-handling. Dribble the ball as quickly as possible in a figure 8 through and around the legs. Use the fingers when you dribble, and dribble very low and quickly. Switch from the right to the left and back to the right. Example: start with the right hand dribbling the ball in front and then dribble through your legs with your right hand, switch to your left hand and dribble from the back, around your left side to the front and back through you legs... then switch to your right hand behind the body and around the right side. Try to go as fast as possible, and your dribbling skills will improve with daily practice.

Ball Handling Tip #7: The ball is moved around the outside of the left leg from the back to the front. Then it is passed in front of your body and around the outside of your right leg from front to back. Now the ball is between your legs at the back of your body. Bounce the ball, and as it is bouncing, reverse your hands, bring your right from the back to the front and your left from the front to the back. Catch the ball before it bounces again. Continue to do figure eights.

FIGURE 8 DROP REVERSE
Ball Handling Tip #8: For this drill, follow the procedure described in the Figure Eight Drop Drill, except that when you bounce the ball, your movement will be reversed. After the bounce, circle the ball around the outside of your right leg, in front of your left leg, and around your left leg from the front to the back.

Ball Handling Tip #9: Move the ball around your legs as in the Figure Eight Drill, but in addition, run in place.

ONE ON TWO
Ball Handling Tip #10: A good drill to use to better your dribbling under pressure is to try to advance the ball against two defenders. This will force you to use a variety of manuevers while being alert to the defense.

PASS AND CATCH
Ball Handling Tip #11: With 2 hands, make a bounce pass between your legs from front to back and catch the ball with 2 hands behind you. Then bounce the ball through your legs from the back to the front, and catch the ball in front of your body. This is a good drill for body awareness.

SIT-UP DRIBBLE
Ball Handling Tip #12: While doing bent-knee situps, dribble up with your right hand as you sit up, and around your feet, then switch hands to your left as you go back down, and then dribble with your left hand as you sit up, back around your feet, switching back to your right hand. Continue as quickly as possible.

SQUEEZE THE BANANA
Ball Handling Tip #13: This is a drill that helps increase the strength in your fingers. Hold the ball in front of you at eye level with two hands. By squeezing your fingers and thumb together with one hand at a time, you move the ball from one hand to the other as quickly as you can. More finger and arm strength will imrove your ball control.

TOUCH-TOUCH-TOUCH
Ball Handling Tip #14: This is another ball-handling drill that seems very difficult at first, but with daily practice, will improve your handles. This drill is called touch-touch-touch because that is what you do... while keeping the ball between your legs, you touch the ball once with your right hand(fingers) in front, then with your left hand(fingers) in front, then with your right behind you, and then with your left behind you. Continue in this manner as fast as possible. Before long, you will master this skill.

UP THE LADDER
Ball Handling Tip #15: Hold the ball out in front of you and pass it back from hand to hand using only your finger tips. Go from out in front of your waist to above your head and back. This will help you develop the finger tip control that you will need to properly handle the ball.

Improving Your Free Throw

After seeing most of the HUBC youth games, I realize that the free throw percentage of the youth team is quite low. Here are some drills that you can improve your free throw…. Have a Try!

Purpose - To develop:
- consistent free throw routine;
- concentration and focus at the free throw line;
- visualization of a successful shot

A free throw is the easiest shot to make if you have the right routine.

Most players miss because they either have bad shooting form or they aren’t focused totally on the moment. They might hear the crowd trying to mess them up, they might be thinking “If I miss this, we will lose”, or they might be thinking about a shot they missed earlier in the game.

Your routine should be one that has you totally focused on the moment. This drill will help you to block out the distractions and help you get used to visualizing a successful shot every time you shoot . This is important because if you are focusing on your routine (and your key words – see below), you can’t possibly think about the distractions (the crowd noise, worrying about missing it, etc.) at the same time.

So, let’s say that you normally take 3 dribbles, stay in your ready position for a second, and then shoot the free throw. After the ref gives you the ball, with each dribble, say the word “dribble”.

Then after your last dribble, as you get in the ready position, say “set”. (Or whatever word you like, maybe “rim” or “ready”). At this time, run your shot through your mind before you actually shoot it. What you want to do is see yourself (in your mind) going up to shoot, extending your arm, releasing the ball off your finger tips, and seeing the ball swish through the net. Then as you actually go through your shooting motion, say to yourself “net” or “swish”. (If you miss your shot, just say or think to yourself "erase", or something like that. Then turn your focus to your next shot. It takes a while to get good at forgetting a miss and focussing on your next shot, but it's important that you learn how to do it.)

So while you are on the free throw line doing the actions, you are going to say to yourself, “dribble-dribble-dribble…set…net”.

You can whisper these commands to yourself, or just think them in your head. The important thing here is to get this into your free throw routine. Remember, your goal is to focus on the moment by focusing on each little step – the dribble, the setup, and the shot.

You'll also condition yourself to "feel" the ball going in before you actually shoot it. That's why you want to have a keyword like "swish" or "net". What we are doing here is known as a "Conditioned Reflex".

What is a conditioned reflex?

In the early 1900's, a behavioral scientist named Pavlov discovered certain reflex behaviors in dogs. Dogs normally drool when they are hungry and they see food. Since Pavlov worked with dogs in a lab, he was usually wearing a white lab coat when he fed the dogs.

Over time, he noticed that the dogs would drool and get excited for food whenever they saw him walk by in his lab coat, even though it wasn't feeding time. He then tested ringing a bell whenever he fed them. After they got used to being fed after hearing the bell, he found that they acted the same way as when they saw someone walk by in a lab coat.

When he rang the bell (even though it wasn't feeding time), the dogs would drool and get excited for food. This is a conditioned reflex - substituting a word, or picture, or sound so it means something else and it triggers a certain reaction. When the dogs saw the doctor walk by in the lab coat, or when they heard the bell ringing, they automatically linked it to "feeding time". And humans are the same as animals when it comes to having these kinds of reflexes.

In the same way, you can learn how to condition yourself to feel good when you shoot free throws. Every time after you make a free throw, say your keyword (like "swish" or "net"). Then after a while, you'll be able to say your keyword before you shoot so that your mental response will be visualizing the ball swishing into the basket, and your physical response will be to shoot a nice smooth shot.

This takes some time to get used to, but once you get the hang of it, free throws can become automatic. You’ll be focused on your routine instead of the crowd or any other distracting thoughts – it’s just you, the ball, the rim and your routine.

You will be letting the free throws happen instead of making them happen.

Practice this routine 2 ways:

1. In the Court – go through your whole routine as you say your words to yourself.

Part A - Go at a nice pace when you first start out. There's no rush. Remember, you have ten seconds for each free throw in a real game. So don't rush. Develop a routine that's comfortable to you. Shoot 10 or 20 free throws at a time to get into a groove with your routine. Do this for a couple of weeks so you get used to your routine.

Part B - After getting your own comfortable routine, start shooting only 2 or 3 free throws in a row. Because you probably won't ever shoot more than 3 free throws at one time on the free throw line, you should condition yourself for game-like situations. Shoot 2 or 3, then back away from the free throw line to start a new set.

Part C - One thing that you can do in the gym that can help you practice game-like conditions is to take a couple of free throws (remember to use your routine), and then run to the other free throw line (or even the baseline at the other end of the court) and then back again to take 2 more. You can do this until you've made 10 free throws. Or you can make it more challenging and do it until you've made 10 in a row.

In a real game, you aren't going to be standing at the line taking 10 or 20 shots in a row, so you should practice how it's going to be in a game. Most free throws in a game are taken after a few minutes of action running up and down the court. So get used to this by taking a couple of free throws, running, then stopping to shoot a couple more. But don't do this until you are comfortable with the routine you've developed in Part A.

2. Mental movie – see yourself playing a game and getting fouled. See yourself stepping up to the free throw line, going through your routine, and saying your words to yourself as you do each step. Feel the ball coming smoothly out of your hand as you go through your shooting motion, and see the ball falling gently through the net. Take a step away from the free throw line until the ref hands it to you again, and then do it all over again. Visualize this for several minutes. Make time to do this whenever you can.

One final tip - Try to shoot no less than 50 free throws every time you go out to shoot.

Promising Youth targeted by Home

While the C-Boys tournament is still in progress, a number of clubs has been targeting potential youth to join their club in preparation to compete in this year's Under 14 tournament organized by BAS.

Home United is believed to have targeted on players from Anglican High and Presbyterian High. Four players, playing the role of guard and forward from Anglican will be joining Home while two centers from Presbyterian will be recruited as well.

All these players are 13 years old and a real talent in the game. Home United is definitely focusing on their youth scouting system.

Singapore Schools Swipe All Titles, Home United Finished Second

The 26th Milo Cup Tournament ended last year with Singapore Schools winning all categories in the tournament. Home United, tried to prevent an all Singapore Schools winnings but only did enough to come in as runner-up.

Singapore Schools started strongly in the first quarter, pulling off a 7-0 run. Home United players were slow to start yesterday. Most of the players seem to be nervous playing in front of a big crowd. Singapore Schools captivated on their opponent weakness and took a 15 point lead at the end of the first.

Home United fought back in the second quarter and cut the lead to 11 points. At the start of the third quarter, Home United hit a 6-0 run and the lead was reduced to 5 point. The atmosphere was tense as Home United managed to cut SS lead by just 2 points. But Singapore School got themselves together and restored their lead when Mitchell, Leonard, and Ziqi were taken out to rest.

No.14 Qiang Sen and No.6 Ziqi fouled out created more headache for the team. It was all Singapore Schools night when they lead by 9 points in the last 6 sec. Home United managed to finish off the last basket with the final score reading 77-70.

Credits should be given to the Home boys. They were not seen as a team to reach the last round and surely not the final. They proved a lot of people wrong by reaching the final and were so closed to beat Singapore Schools. Out of so many games last night in Singapore Basketball Center, it was the most memorable and exciting game of all. Well done boys!

Match Preview – Home United faces Singapore Schools in Final

Home United will faced Singapore Schools in the Grand Final of this year’s Milo Cup 2007 tomorrow at Singapore Basketball Center, 8pm.

Home United, who beat Singapore Schools in their previous meeting at Yuhua CC would definitely hope that lady luck would be on their side tomorrow to repeat that feat again. For Singapore Schools, beat DOS in the semi-final in over-time, would want Home United to pay for their only and one of the biggest defeat they suffered in their history. The latter beat them with a 15 points margin is a defeat hard for them to swallow.

The return of their influential center No.15 will definitely boost their moral. Out injured during their previous meeting with Home, Singapore School suffered in the center area. His return in the semi-final helped SS to overcome the mighty DOS. He is the guy Home United post player got to watch out.

Home United will be without No.12 Lin Shiyang out injured. While No.11 Alvin has slowly recovered from his injury, he should lessen the burdle of No.5 Jiahao and Mo.8 Mitchell.

All eyes will be on tomorrow’s final. It’s going to be an exciting final and the crowd would like to see if SS will lost again in this year’s final. My bet is still on Home United. That’s what a die-hard for Home should do. Go for Gold Home!

Home United Boys in Finals for the First Time

After 2 years since Home United Youth was started, it is the first time they reach the Milo Cup Final when they beat Whye Nam 69-60 to clinch a spot in the final.

Home United started off strongly in the first quarter. Whye Nam started off the game with zone defence was a mistake. No.8 Mitchell, No.6 Ziqi and No.4 Runchao were left wide open after some fine set plays and contributed five 3-pointers altogether. Home took a 15 points lead at the end of the first quarter, with the scoreboard showing 29-14.

Whye Nam was really all in for this game. Their injured players No.7 and No.4 were both playing despite injured before this game. In the second and third quarter, they started to deploy full court press in hope to close the gap. With the clock running down at 2:45, Home United defence were exploited and were unable to get back their full court press. At the end of third, Whye Nam closes the gap 47-56.

Despite the fought back, Home United managed to compose themselves and held on to their lead. It was a great night for the Home Youth when the final whistle sounded. It was the first time Home Youth got into the Grand Final in this tournament.

With Singapore Schools (SS) beating DOS in a nail-biting semi-final, SS overcame DOS in over-time to win the match 104-94. DOS had themselves to blame for blundering four chances from the free throw line in the final quarter. With a turnover from fast-break committed by DOS, SS stretched DOS all the way to overtime last night. DOS, with foul trouble and the dept of the squad were not enough to cover their No.9 and Gordon who were fouled out respectively.

Home United will faced Singapore Schools in the Grand Final on Sunday, 15th July 2007, 8.00pm at the Singapore Basketball Center.

Home United Girl Overrun NYJC

Home United Girl beat NYJC 63-35 in their last match of the tournament to finish fifth spot. Home proved too strong for the JC girls to handle. In term of rebounds, shooting accuracy and fast break, they were a class below the Home Team. Losing in defensive rebound, NYJC committed too many foul inside the paint resulting Home getting points from the line.

Singapore Schools and Hong Kah North Staged all Important Final Game.

While KG Ubi Kembangan surprisingly lost to Stacker 64-67, the final game of the girls U18 group is all important for Singapore Schools and Hong Kah North. A win from either side will lifted the Championship trophy. Should Singapore Schools win the final game, Hong Kah North, Stackers and KG Ubi Kembangan will have to decide on their head to head records.

Home Takes On Whye Nam In Semi

After defeating Whye Nam and secured top position in the final round of the Milo Cup, Home United will need to shake off Whye Nam again tomorrow in order to progress to the Grand Final of this year’s Milo Cup.

The semi-finals will take place in Singapore Basketball Center tomorrow at 8.30pm. Home United will pit against Whye Nam while Singapore Schools will take on DOS. Whye Nam who lost to Home in their final game will put everything they have to stop Home United this time round. However, they will be without couple of their key players. No.4 who was injured earlier is still in doubt to play. Their inspiring point-guard, No.7 will likely sit out of the game due to an injury sustained during their last match.

Home No.12 Shiyang will not be available for this match. He’s out with back injury when he played against Tagawa. His rebound ability will be missed by Home United especially when they are playing taller opponent like Whye Nam

Although Home defeated Whye Nam in their last game, but I would still feel that it’s an open game. Home was only able to overcome them in the last 2 quarters. Whye Nam will be playing even harder in this game as the ticket to the Grand Final is up for grab. Home will need to produce another outstanding performance in order to progress.

Home United Boys Topped Group in Final Round

Home United (U18 boys) came in top in the final round of the Milo Cup 2007 when they beat Whye Nam 79-69. DOS beat Tagawa 72-64 after Home United’s game meant that Home United will meet Whye Nam again on Wednesday (11/07/2007) for the semi-final.

Whye Nam’s No.15 was inspiring in the first quarter; he scored 7 points and helps his team to take the lead 19-15 at the end of first quarter. Home United came back strongly in the second quarter with No.8 Mitchell and No.6 ZiQi hitting a 3-pointer each to narrow the gap by 2 points at the end of half time.

Home United No.4 Runchao and No.5 Jiahao were deployed to full court man-marked Whye Nam point guard’s No.7, limited his scoring opportunities and were kept quiet in the third. No.8 Mitchell who closed down Whye Nam scoring guard No.9 has kept him at bay. Home United put together some fine defence and counter-attacks to take the lead 55-53 at the end of third quarter.

Mitchell contributed 6 points in the last quarter before he was substituted to rest. The team went on to impress with good defence and fast-breaks to break off from Whye Nam.
It was a sweet victory for Home as this is the first time for the boys to reach the semi-final. Well done boys!

Home United Girls defeated by Hong Kah

Home United’s hope to finish top four was crashed by Hong Kah North when they lost 82-32. Hong Kah North was too strong for Home. Their defence was tough and they were fast to counter attack through their fast-breaks. Home United unable to convert most of their perimeter’s shoots suffered deeply in the tournament.

Their last game will be against NYJC. It’s a game that they will need to put together and win for their pride. A win will see their finished fifth spot.

Tagawa End Home United Winning Streaks

Tagawa saved themselves from knocking out of the Milo Cup as they beat Home United 64-50 earlier in the evening today. Tagawa clearly know that they need to win this game in order to have a chance to qualify for the semis, put on a strong performance to overcome Home United.

Home United, already qualified for the semis looked tired in this game. They seems like conserving their energy for the semis. Mitchell, the main pillar of the team was under fired today. His performance was far from his standard. The rest of the team look lost with his control and guidance.

Although Home did not have a great game, the lost of this game was also due to their poor percentage at the free-throw. They missed whole lots of free throws or the game will be more closely contested.

Afterall, I still feel that Home United has improved a lot from their debut game. But the rest of the players really have to show more confidence in themselves in order to stand a chance to reach the grand final.

They will be playing Whye Nam tomorrow at Singapore Basketball Center, 5.30pm. A win tomorrow will see them top the group and faced fourth place team. Whye Nam who lost earlier to Singapore Schools will search for a win tomorrow. Whye Nam, DOS and Tagawa are all 2-2 (win-loss) level on points. DOS need to win Tagawa tomorrow to get to the semis.

The Home United girls (U18) will take on Hong Kah tomorrow. The girls need to win Hong Kah to finish top 4 positions. As there are no semi-finals for the girls, the final standing of the final round will decide their final position.

Home United Senior Teams Take On Darwin

Home United Men and Women team will be playing against Darwin tomorrow at Singapore Basketball Center. The women team's match starts at 7.15pm while the men’s match is at 8.30pm.

This is the first match for both teams after their last game in the National Basketball League (NBL). It would be interesting to see if they are in match fitness and how they fared against their bigger sized opponent.

There are no news if there will be other competitive tournaments coming up for men and women, this may be a good chance for Home fans to catch their favourite players dashing up and down on the court. It is also a good opportunity for the club to test out new players for future matches.

Home United (U18) End Singapore Schools Winning Streaks

Everyone will be watching Home United after their game last night when they beat Singapore Schools 76-61 at Yuhua CC.

Singapore Schools, who hasn’t lost any game in this campaign is the favourite to win over Home United. They were leading in the first and second quarter but with Home United closely contested.

Home United started off the third quarter strongly and managed to overtake Singapore Schools. They were leading by 9 points at one time but their defensive error and lapse of concentration conceded some precious points. The game tied at 49-49 at the end of third quarter.

The game was like a race, Home United keeping pace with their opponent. In the last quarter, they started to push up their defence. Singapore Schools conceded quite a few turn-over that allows Home United to stretch their lead.

Mitchell was excellent throughout the game. Singapore Schools was unable to stop him from scoring. His contribution from the 3-point line and driving into the paint were constant threat to the opponent. He’s simply unstoppable last night. No.7 Xavier and No.6 Ziqi successfully converted a couple to 3-pointers in the second half were the turning point of the game.

No.4 Runchao and No.9 Jason Wong were also outstanding in their defence. With No.10 Jeryl Yee shutting out SS’s No.10, and Mitchell keeping SS’s No.7 quiet throughout the game, Singapore Schools doesn’t seems to able to score from the guards. No.6 Ziqi and No.14 Qiang Sen did well against their post players, but the latter was unfortunately fouled out in the third quarter.

It was a great night for the Home United camp when the final whistle blown. They extended their winning streaks to 5 games and put Singapore Schools unbeaten record in this tournament to an end. Their next big test will be against Tagawa. Can they create another upset? All eyes will be on them now.

Home United (U16) Won Their Pride

Home United (U16) played their last match of the tournament at Singapore Basketball Center yesterday. Despite the fact that they were already knocked out of the tournament by the might Singapore Schools and Tagawa, their last performance should deserve a standing ovation.

Home United beat Woodlands Ring Sec 74-47 to finish their route in high-note. Deploying a full court press throughout the game, WRS was unable to keep up the pace of the game. Their main player, No.12 and point-guard no.9 were closely watched. They did not contribute much to team. It was first time since the lost to Whye Nam, we saw a really “never say die” Home United. They fought for every ball, grabbing rebounds and beautified the game with their flow of the game.

The post players and centers were great yesterday. No.15 Mingjun, No.11 Jun Xian and No.13 Kun You were everywhere grabbing rebound and scoring inside the paint. It was one of the best games the centers had played. No.10 Jia Jun, though one of the smallest post player in this tournament was also outstanding in the rebounding area.

National Youth and Home United No.9 Gerald Toh who had a bad campaign at the start of the tournament was lively and effective yesterday. From defence to offence, he was moving from end to end to block shots, rebound, assist and scored for the team. It was a brilliant performance displayed by the 15-year-old kid.

Although they have come to an end of the tournament but to many it is just the beginning for the whole squad. This tournament should have taught them a lot to be a really good basketballer. This team has the potential to go far, but they must stay together and work hard together.

On another end, the girls’ team hopes of reaching the top four suffered another blow when they lost 21-62 to Singapore Schools. As most would have expected the team to lose to favourites Singapore School, the girls’ team hardly gives a fight and trouble the mighty Singapore Schools.

Home United girls have to win their next two matches. The match with Hong Kah North should be the decider for the top four slots.

Home United (U18) Secured Another Win

Home United surprised DOS with a win, when they put together some fine display to beat DOS 66-57 at Singapore Basketball Center today at 4pm.

This match, which was postpone from last night due to rain, held at SBC earlier today. What more can we say, the right venue and awesome plays from both sets of players. Mitchell (no.8) and Jason (no.9) were in top form today to upset DOS. Although Mitchell was unable to covert most of his shots outside, but his penetration to the paint to assist and score really run out DOS's defence. With DOS, No.8 Hanpin trying his best to man-mark him, he really couldn't do much to stop him. While Mitchell was pushing his team on, Jason Wong shared his burden by scoring some fine field goals and from the 3 point line.

But what is winning without defence? Home United's No. 4, Run Chao and No. 5 Jia Hao also put in some fantastic effort to keep DOS's point-guard No.7 at bay. His play was limited and his team mates suffered deeply without his assists. Home United's No.6, Ziqi also did a great job to limit DOS power forward, No.9 who was given a technical foul towards the end of the game. It clearly showed that he had a bad game.

But Mitchell could only made 1 out of the 4 free throws, or else it would be a bigger margin win. Nevertheless, the whole team showed some character to take down this game. Home United took another small step towards the finals.

The Home United under 16 will be taking on WRS in their last game of the tournament. It's gona be a game where they will need to win their pride back... Go on Home United U16 team. On the girls side, Home United Under 18 team will need to win against Singapore Schools to keep their hopes alive for the top four finish.

They will need to find No.4 Koh Hui Jun and No.12 Elica Foo Hirayama in top form and inspires the team push Singapore Schools all the way. It's going to be an uphill task. But WE ARE HOME UNITED, we never says die......

Home(U16) Crashed out of Milo Cup

Home United (U16) campaign in this year’s Milo Cup came to an end when they lost to Tagawa 79-39 last night.

Tagawa started off strongly but have to pull off Home’s strong resilience in the first half. However, it was all gone when Home United seems to give up in the 3rd quarter. The boys don’t seem to give all their best. It was a match of lots of miss chances from the Home side.

It should be hard to swallow for the Home Team to be knocked out of the tournament like that when they were playing so well in the first round. Some of the players’ performances were slacken as the team progresses. It’s always a pity to see a team with talented and potential players misses out the top 4 spot.

Their last match will be against WRS, a match they need to win to get their pride back.

Match Preview – Home United vs Tagawa

Tagawa continued to surge forward to the finals as they faced Home United today at Kovan CSC, 8.30pm. Home United who need a win in this match in order to qualify for the Semi-final should go all out and win this tie.

Home United’s center have not been playing up to par in this campaign. Neither offence nor defence is up to par with their reputation in this age category. Against a more consistence Tagawa, Home United would need to hit them right from the start. Home will look at their centers to perform today as well as No.5 Larry, No.6 Jun Hao and No.14 Wei Hao to get their shots back into the basket.

They would need to stop Tagawa’s No.9, the soul of the team, in order to progress further. Although Tagawa has a pool of talented players in the squad, their plays revolved around their No.9. Another one to watch out will be their No.8. Bless with pace and built, this forward can terrorised any defence on his day.

It will be an uphill task for Home to beat Tagawa given that they are running a straight 2 loses. It would be difficult for any youth players to regain their moral especially losing in the last 2 matches with such a big margin. But again, if they don’t bounce back today, they will never be as today is the crucial match for them to progress further in the competition and progress to be a better player.

Home United (U18) in Milo Cup's Final Round

Home United U18 beat Tampines East 77 - 73 last night to book a place in the final round of the Milo Cup 2007. DOS, Singapore Schools, Tagawa, Min Yi are among the teams that's in the final round as well.

Home United starts off the 1st quarter strongly with a 7-0 run. They continued to put pressure on Tampines and ended the quarter with the score 20-13. But Tampines did not give up their hopes of qualifying. They knew that just by winning the tie, they are in the final round. Their determination cut the lead to 4 points at the end of 3rd quarter.

It's a real disappointment to see some of the Home's players not giving their best in the 2nd and 3rd quarter. Their display clearly shown lacks the passion, fighting spirit and concentration. It's like lost soul in the court.

The score were real tight in the last quarter. With Tampines kept pushing forward. Tampines No.14 was fouled with 1 min left in the last quarter. Tampines were trailing by 1 point as he hit 1 of 2 free throw from the line. With the clock ticking down, Tampines lost their patience as they tried to double team Mitchell at the top of the key. That led No.4 Runchao all open at the side, received a pass from Mitchell and hit a big 3 from downtown. Home United extended their lead to 4 points with 14 sec left on the clock. Tampines tried to score from the 3-point line but the ball just did not entered the basket. In the end, Home United won the game 77-73.

This is first time in the tournament that Home United conceded 70 over points. Whatever the reason is, they really need to play with more passion and surely no space for taking a breather in the next round against strong teams like Singapore Schools and DOS.

Come on Home United, give your best shot for the last round...... If you think u can do it, you'll do it.... All of us are right behind you guys.

Match Preview - Home United vs Tampines East

Home United, with 2 wins in their bag will faced Tampines East tomorrow at Yuhua CC, 8.30pm. Tampines East who lost to Min Yi in their previous match needed to win in order to qualify for the final round. Home United on the other hand would like to get their 3rd straight win.

A win is important for Home United as the result will be carried forward to the next round, even if a defeat of 1 point will mean Tampines and Home United qualify for the next round, which also mean Home United starts the final round with a game lost. Anything more than a 6 points defeat will see Home United Knocked out of the competition.

Home United's captain (No.8) has been a pillar for the team. He would need to lift his team again to overcame Tampines East resiliance. The rest of Home United players must also show faith and confidence in themselves to win this encounter.

Home United (U18) record another win while U16's hopes suffered a knock

Home United (U18) boys won last evening game against Cyber Relax with the score 76-48. Mitchell (No.8) was on fire in the 1st quarter when he hit four 3-pointer in a row. The 1st quarter ended with Home United leading 25-8.

Home United started to slow down their pace in the 2nd and 3rd quarter resulting Cyber Relax to closing up the gap. The lead was reduced to 14 points at the end of the 3rd quarter. Home United started the last quarter strongly and eventually won the last quarter 22-8. The final score 76-48 sees Home United moving a step closer to the final round.

While the Under 18 continued to march to the final round, the Under 16's hopes for qualifying the final round suffered a blow when they lost to Singapore Schools, 85-41. Although they lost by a 44 points margin, they performed much better compared to their last game against Whye Nam. It seems like the boys have slowly adapted to big matches and its a good sign for the coach when they faced Tagawa in "must win" match on Thursday.

The Under 18 girls were outclassed by KG Ubi Kembangan as they lost 49-61. It was their second lost in the final round as their result with Stackers was brought forward to this round. Their remaining matches are against Singapore Schools, Hong Kah North and NYJC. With little hopes against the mighty Singapore Schools, Home United must win against Hong Kah North and NYJC to finish top 4.

Whye Nam Cruised Past Home United

The much anticipated match ended with Whye Nam criusing pass Home United with the score 66-48. Whye Nam proved too strong for Home United when they practically killed the game in first quarter leading by 22-5 at the end of the quarter.

It's not easy for any team to come back from behind after trailing by so many points. Home United tried hard to fight back but were unable to close the gap. Although Home United win the second quarter by 1 point, 14-13, it was not enough to bring the game back. Whye Nam win the 3rd quarter by another 20-14 run, throwing Home United really back behind.

Maybe what is worth mentioning was Home United fighting spirits. Though falling behind, they fought hard to come back. They were once trailing by 12 points. It's a pity that they were unable to overcome Whye Nam fastbreak. It the end, Whye Nam won the game 66-48.

Judging by Home United performances in the first round. They were to slow to start off in every game, which is a killer to any team. Today match was another good example. It also show that they were unable to cope with big match pressure. Or maybe ladyluck was not on their side. The shooting percentage were way too low.

It's going to be an uphill task for them as they were drawn against Singapore Schools, Tagawa and Woodlands Ring Sec in the last 8. Now it's a test of mental strenght. Home United boys must look up and play extremely hard for every match to pogress further. Most importantly, is to stay focus right from the start. Come on Home United... It's all in your mind to take on any opponent and win them.

Home United Girl U18 in Final Round

The Milo Cup Tornament 2007 (Girls U18 Category) has entered the final round. Home United successfully entered the last 6 after their win against T-net Club. Same as the U18 Boys format, the final round will be played in round-robin format.

Home United's result against Stackers in the preliminary round will remain in this final round. Which also mean that Home United starts off with a lost in their hand. In order to qualify for the semi-finals, Home United need to win at least 2 more games or more (depend on other teams results) to get through the passage to the finals.

It's going to be tough for the girls. But since they have progressed so far in this tournament, we bet that they will give all out for the remaining matches.

Well done girls, keep the Home United Flag flying high....

Match Preview - Home United (U16) vs Whye Nam

It's going one of the biggest match of the Milo Cup Tournament for the under 16 category when Home United plays Whye Nam in their final game of the preliminary round. The match, much anticipated by fans of both sides take place at Singapore Basketball Center tomorrow at 4.30pm.

Home United, who won their last two matches passing the 100-point mark and their impressive defence will be put on test tomorrow against a talented Whye Nam side. On paper, Whye Nam's physical advantage and talent pool stand an edge over Home United. But Home United has shown that they worked well together as a team this year as compared to last year where they were knocked out in the first round. Although both teams have already qualified for the next round, it should not be a match that bored the crowds. They will be fighting for the top spot so that they will get to ballot 2 runner-up teams for the second round.

The market are marking Whye Nam as favourites for this game. Can Home United outclass them? It going to be difficult to tell. But if Home United fight hard enough, anything can happen. The ball is round.......

Home United Past First Hurdles

Home United (U18) boys beat last year champion's Min Yi last night with the final score 61-57. It was a tightly contested match with both teams fighting hard to win their first match of the second round. Mitchell (no.8) and Leonard(No.15) leads the team's scoring with 26 points and 12 points respectively, secured the win for Home United.

Home United was trailing behind in the first two quarters. The first quarter end with the score 17-18. Min Yi tried to put Home United behind but can only lead 4 points at the end of the second quarter. Home United's attack were in the first two quarters were miserable. With Mitchell(No.8) and Leonard (No.15) putting Home in contest for the game.

When the 3rd quarter started, Home United seems to put more pressure on their opponent. The coach deploy a full court man press and full deny on Min Yi's No.6 - The players behind their set play. It seems effective as he was not able to create too much problem for Home United. No.4 Runchao and No.9 Jason Wong put together some fine defence to hold off Min Yi's No.6. The third quarter ended with Home United leading by 2 points, 41-39

Mitchell hit two 3-pointer in the 4th quarter to put Home United right back on track. In the end,
it was a Home's team and fighting spirits that hold off their opponent. It was a sweet victory for Home United.

On the other side, the girls team (U18) beat T-net with the score 52-35 to secure their place in the final round.

Match Preview - Home United vs Min Yi, Home United(U18 Girls) vs T-net Bt Merah

"Dark Horse" Home United will take on last year's Champion, Min Yi in tonight's second round of the Milo Youth Cup. The game will be played at Ang Mo Kio CC at 8.30pm.

Min Yi will not be as strong as compared to last year's squad. But they will not be easy meat for any takers. Unlike last year, they do not have any "superstars" in the team, but as a whole, they are very hardworking if you see them played against WRS in the last match. They worked well together as a team.

Home United has been quite inconsistance based on round 1 performance. They tend to relax when they met weaker opponents and played well when they are facing tougher and stronger teams. A sign which is not healthy to any youth team as their inconsistance may make them pay for the all important matches in second round.

The second round results will be brought forward to the final round of the tournament. Which also mean that every game is important. It will be best for any team to win all the games if they can in this round as to ensure a good start in the next round...

The last time Home United played well was against Tong Whye. That's the only match that they showed real hunger for a win, hunger for the cup. The real test has just begin. Can they handle such pressure, handle stronger offence and defence from stronger opponents? We shall see how they fare in their 1st test tonight.

On the other side, the girls team will take on T-net Bt. Merah tonight, 7pm at Singapore Basketball Center. Home United and T-net all have a chance to qualify for next round. T-net need to win by 8 points to qualify for the next round.

Home United should be able to win this encounter. Even if they lose, they will not lose more than 8 points. But afterall, the ball is round anything can happen in the game especially when they lost to stackers by 11 points. As long as they played good defence, I don't see any reason for them to lose to T-net.

Home United's No.4 and No.12 will play an important roles today. The duo can create alot of trouble for the opponents if they played well. No.7 who came off the bench last match played quite well too. She just need to focus on grabbing down all the rebounds and drive into the paint. But she must watch out for her fouls. A players who commits unnecessary fouls at times.

Let's hope that two Home United Teams can produce good results today!

Home United U18 topped group despite lost

Home United U18 boys topped their group despite the lost of their final game of round 1. With only nine players presented last night. They were unable to curb Teck Ghee CSC strong-will performace.

Teck Ghee who already out of the tournament managed to pull the strings together last night and upset the group winner with the final score 70-61. They coped well with Home United full court press and exposed their opponent weak defence.

It seems like the Home players were not putting in effort for their last group game. Already secured a group winner place, their plays and defence were sloppy. With the absence of their captain Mitchell and No.7 Xaiver, their fire power was strongly affected.

Home United really need to up the tempo for their next game. In the second round, there are no more weaker teams as most of the weaker team were knocked out of the tournament. Home United will play against last year Champion Min Yi this coming Wed 20 June 2007, 8.30pm at Ang Mo Kio CC.

From Home United's line up and performances, they should considered as "dark horse" for the final. Their first test will be Min Yi. Can they overcome the Champions? We should see.

Match Report - Home United (U18) Girls vs Stackers

In any game, history don't really play a part. Stackers must surely agree on this. They beat Home United with the score 55-44. One of their biggest win against Home United in recent years.

Home United went in strong in the 1st quarter leading 6-5 at the start of the match. However, poor defending and passing leads to numerous unnecssary take-over made Home United pay for their sloopy play. Stackers counter them with fastbreaks and took a lead 14-8 at the end of 1st quarter.

Stackers deploy a 3-2 zone defence hit Home United right on the spot. Home United players simply can't make any shots outside the paint. Home United's No.4 and No.12 were the only players who made the basket. But their play were too predictable, they only drives towards the basket. 2nd quarter was a quarter of missed chances and bad passing from both sides. In the last 30 seconds of the half, stackers No.8 made a 3-point basket and push the lead to 30-20 at the end of 2nd quarter.

Home United started to step on the pedal a little bit in the 3rd quarter, they managed to put in some nice set play and was trailing by 4 points with 5:42 left on the clock. At the end of 3rd quarter, Home United trail by 6 points with the score 34-40.

Stackers up the pace in the last quarter. No.13 hit a 3 and push the lead to 7 points with the score 43-36 with 7:15 left on the clock. It was Stackers no.5 who stole the show for a minute. She was the one pulling down all the rebounds for stackers and made thing really difficult for Home United. Home United did not give up. No.4 came dashing into the paint and scored. Trailing by 6 points, Home United deployed a full court press in anticipation that the opponent would fumble and made turnovers.

The full court press was not effective. They did not help out each other, instead they were just man-marking their own man. A screen and their man was free from marking. Stackers made the final 3 point shot of the last quarter and they won the game with the score 55-44.

A Stacker's player was so delighted that she kept chanting... "We beat Home U, We beat Home U"

So it was left with the last match that Home U need to win against T-net to enter the second round.

Match Preview - Home United (U18 Girls) vs Stackers

A Must Win Match for Home United

Home United girls team (U18) face Stackers in a match which they need to win to book their place in the next round of the Milo Cup. The game, will be played at Singapore Basketball Center (SBC) on Sunday 17 June 2007 @12pm.

Base of head to head track record, Home United's chances of winning this tie seems higher. But while most of the players and coach changed in this squad, everything will be back to square one again. Home United girls youth team's performance so far in this tournament has been a roller coaster ride. They performed badly on their first game but were lucky to win. They seems to be more composed in the next two games but were still making too much takeovers.

Their passing and teamwork were obviously lacking in the first match and could cost them dearly if they started off too slow in this game. The gals need to stay focus right from the start and score early to shake off stackers' counter.

Stackers on the other hand made some impressive wins in the group. Despite a slow start against Team HARV, they manages to run down the rest of their opponents with some impressive fast-breaks. It will be a hard nut for Home United to crack in tomorrow's game.

Will Home United stands tall after the game? Or will Stackers put up another impressive performance to win the group? I guess it will be an interesting game tomorrow. Fans of HUBC, your suppport at the court will surely be the sixth man on the court.

Match Preview - Home United (U18) vs Teck Ghee CSC

Home United Under 18 boys will be playing against Teck Ghee CSC tomorrow night at the Singapore Basketball Center at 7.30pm.

For Home United, already qualify for the next round should win their opponent in their next game. If they perform what they have performed so far, they should cruise pass this game. The only thing that will make them lose it is - themselves.

They have to keep their feet on the ground and play every game seriously. Last match against PPH CSC was a good example of slacking. The HU players were not focus on that game and did not put in their 100% effort. Though winning the game by a big margin, that type of performance is no where near champion standard.

Tomorrow's game main point will be the HU players themselves, whether they starts to think they are championship material already or they have realised that they still have a long way to go to match against top Youth Clubs. Another interesting area will be the coach of Teck Ghee. A so called "public enemy" in local basketball scene. How he behaved and how he plot his pit against Home United is something everyone would want to know. Nevertheless, we expect the court to be real noisy when Teck Ghee's coach is concerned.

My heart will flow with the Home United's players. But I urges the team to put on a good fight, a good show and not a performance seen from the last match.

Go Home United....... win the game with pride and win it nice.
